WTN: 2012 Idlewild Nebbiolo

by David M. Bueker » Sun May 15, 2022 9:28 pm

  • 2012 Idlewild Nebbiolo Fox Hill Vineyard - USA, California, North Coast, Mendocino County (5/15/2022)
Hard to believe that it has been seven years since I first tried this wine. It’s still got some teeth, but it’s also developed aromatic and flavor complexity, including rose petal, dark cherry and spice notes. It smells like Nebbiolo. It’s a little angry, like Nebbiolo. Pretty good outcome for the inaugural vintage of this wine from Idlewild. I still have one more, and will let it sit a little longer just to see how it resolves. There’s still plenty of fruit, so why not let the tannins settle down a bit more.

p.s. I have been following Idlewild Nebbiolo from the very start. Just saying.

Really really loved the Nebbiolo. Bought two cases there, which I *never* do, and still feel sorry for myself that I didn't buy more. (I have too much wine as it is.)

I probably drink more Idlewild than any other domestic winery. It just works with the food I eat.

I hear you. Why I bought so much. I have lots of Bordeaux, but I rarely eat Bordeaux food anymore. We drink more white and pinot than anything else just because we want lighter/brighter wine with what we're eating.
