NYTimes: Asimov on Thinking About Wine

Asimov:Thinking About Wine

A remarkably thoughtful & thought-provoking article by Eric on Thinking About Wine.
Most of us probably already adhere to the thinking points Eric outlines in the article, but it nice to sometimes do a little belly-button introspection on why we are so attached to this thing called wine that we babble on endlessly on the InterNet about our favorite subject, wasting countless hours of our valuable time.
If you read between the lines, you might even get a luke-warm endorsement for natural wines.

Anyway, a worthwhile read. Thank you, Eric.

Loved this. The comparison to Auto-Tune (a sound I despise) and back roads culture (my all-time favorite book, William Least Heat Moon's Blue Highways) are so apt.

So now we’re talking about thinking about wine?

How disorderly. ;)

Nice article.
Thanks Jenise, I hadn't thought of Blue Highways in a while, great book.

Indeed a great book. I'd like to read it again sometime soon.

David, one morning a zillion years ago I read a review of that book in the NYT and, quite literally shot out of the house to go buy it. On another part of the planet, a man I didn't know yet did the exact same thing. On our first date a few years later, it was both our answer to the question "What's your favorite book?" Our hardbound copies sit proudly in our bookcase now, side by side, mine rather tattered with lots of dog-eared pages and coffee spills and probably food crumbs, and his so respectfully handled it almost looks unread. Which is pretty much how we both are in real life. :)

Yes, but that dream began for me when I read Michener's The Drifters when I was 15. WLHM's book was just the natural follow-up for an adult who'd already been through a divorce.
