WTN: Two ViniMacerati & An Old Nebb...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Sun Jan 08, 2023 7:22 pm

Tried these three over the weekend w/ Susan:
1. Populis Macerated Chard MendoCnty (12.5%; Skin-Frmtd; ; Barra & Lolonis Vnyds/RedwoodVlly & DiVito Vnyd/MendoCnty) In Partnership w/ LesLunesWine/Sonoma; Shaunt Oungoulian and Diego Roig 2021: Med.gold rather hazy color; rather resiny/VM/phenolic/skin-contact light melony/Chard honeyed/honey grahams bit complex pleasant enough nose; soft off-dry (0.3%-0.6% r.s.) bit prickley/dissolved CO2 strong resiny/VM/phenolic slight melony/Chard/honey grahams clean bit strange flavor w/ little tannins; med.long off-dry soft/prickley
$23.00 AV)strong VM/phenolic finish; clearly a VM but a bit too soft/bit too sweet & not very interesting; a natural wine but shows no natty character. $23.00 (AV)

2. CowanCllrs RibollaGialla RRV (11.7%; www.CowanCellars.com) 2012: Fairly deep amber color; quite floral/fragrant/gardenias/some spicy light VM/phenolic/skin-contact light honeyed/honey grahams some complex lovely perfumed nose; lightly tart/tangy light VM/phenolic/skin-contact lightly spicy/floral/gardenias/rose petal bit honeyed/honey grahams rather delicate/elegant lightly spicy subtle/complex flavor w/ little tannins; very long/lingering lightly floral/gardenias/rose petal/spicy some honeyed/honey grahams slight phenolic/VM rather delicate/elegant finish; not a lot of RG fruit & not a lot of VM character but a beautiful elegant/delicate fully mature VM that should go for another few more yrs; turns slight funky overnight.

3. WindGap Nebbiolo GlenRose & LunaMatta Vnyds/PasoRobles (14.2%; #2575; 275 cs; www.WindGapWines.com) PaxMahle/Forestville 2006: Med.dark color w/ light bricking; beautiful very fragrant/perfumed intense floral/Nebb/lilacs/violets very slight pungent/road tar bit peppery light toasty/pencilly/oak quite complex/aromatic beautiful classic Nebb nose; quite tart/tangy very strong floral/Nebb/lilacs/violets slight tarry/road tar/pungent light toasty/oak/pencilly slight earthy/dusty beautiful flavor w/ light fairly smooth/ripe tannins; very long/lingering very strong floral/Nebb/lilacs/violets light road tar bit pencilly/oak complex fiish w/ light smooth tannins; shows no jammy/PR character whatsoever; not as light as Piemonte Nebb but not the hard tannins either; one of the best mature Calif Nebbs I recall tasting; overnight it loses some of the floral nose & becomes more tarry/pungent w/ more hard tannins on the palate.

More snigglefrokle from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. The WG Nebb was one of the best mature Calif Nebbs I can recall. This may have been Pax's first or 2'nd Nebb he made. When we had our innaugral NEB meeting, we met there at WindGap in Forestville. Then adjourned to Emilio Castelli's for dinner.
