by TomHill » Sun Feb 05, 2023 4:14 pm

We tasted the other week at Pig+Fig some Carlisle Mourvedres:
1. Carlisle Mourvedre BedrockVnyd/SonomaVlly (14.2%; Planted in 1888; 110 cs; U/U) 2011: Med.color w/ slight bricking; strong plummy/Mourv/licorice some toasty/oak/pencilly slight peppery fairly complex nose; bit soft strong toasty/oak some Mourv/plummy/licorice bit complex flavor w/ light tannins; very long strong plummy/Mourv/licorice some toasty/oak bit complex finish w/ slight drying tannins; a slight soupy character & probably not going to get any better, but a lovely fully-mature Mourv. $40.00

More dirklesplot from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. I liked all of these Mourvs & didn't feel any of them were about to go round the bend. All very good Carlisle expressions of Mourv. Not strongly speaking of Bedrock terroir that I could identify other than some of that SonomaVlly/peppery character you find more strong in the Zins. I liked these much more than the Mataro from ContraCostaCnty.
