WTN: Two Old Donkey&Goats....(short/boring)

by TomHill » Tue Feb 07, 2023 6:25 pm

Dug down into a case of older Donkey&Goats I had:
1. Donkey & Goat Coupe d'Or 50% Roussanne/Marsanne ElDorado (14.1%; U; www.DonkeyAndGoat.com) Tracey & Jared Brandt/Berkeley 2008: Med.dark gold bit hazy color; fairly fragrant floral/honeysuckle/Rouss some nutty/toasted hazelnuts/slight oxidative bit oldRhoneBlanc rather complex lovely nose; bit soft some Rouss/floral/honeyed/honey grahams rather nutty/toasted hazelnuts/lightly oxidative fairly rich/lush/slightly tangy rather complex flavor w/ slight bitterness; very long/lingering some nutty/toasted hazelnuts/bit oxidative/honey grahams slight floral/Rouss/appley slight stony/chalky quite complex finish; a really interesting sligh oxidative white that resembles some 20+ yr old HermitageBlancs; a quite exotic white still in very good shape.
______________
2. Donkey & Goat Syrah PerliVnyds/MendoRidge (14.5%; U) 2007: Dark color w/ some bricking; strong blackberry/Syrah/very spicy almost MendoRidge Zin-like some toasty/oak bit smokey/Rhonish slight w-c/peppery bit c-c/black pepper rather complex nose; somewhat tart/tangy/bit acidic strong blackberry/boysenberry/Syrah bit c-c/black pepper slight Rhonish/roasted/smokey bit toasty/oak fairly complex flavor w/ light bitey tannins; very long slight Rhonish/roasted/smoked meats some blackberry/Syrah/spicy bit c-c/black pepper sometoasty/Fr.oakrather complex finish w/ light tangy tannins; starting to dry out a bit on the palate but a really lovely/complex aromatic Syrah; speaks strongly of both Syrah & MendoRidge peppery character.

More donkstank from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. I first encountered D&G wines when Tracey & Jerod showed at one of the early RhoneRangers at Ft.Mason. I took a real like to their wines & the passion for what they were doing. Made something like two visits at two different wineries with them in Berkeley. They were early ones to embrace the natural wine movement. Yet all their wines I've had have been clean & well-made w/ no obvious natty character. I was expecting bad things from these two wines, but they were perfectly fine.
I gather that Tracey & Jerod are no longer married & that she has been running D&G since about 2021. Anybody have any idea what Jerod is doing these days??
Speaking of OldGoats, now one month beyond my 80'th BD and still going strong!!
