2000 Fonseca Porto Vintage - Portugal, Douro, Porto (3/12/2023)
Cork was a complete disaster to remove, even with a Durand. Eventually decanted through a filter, cleaned out the bottle and put it back in after a few hours. First glass was about four hours after opening, and that was still way too soon. Only twenty four hours later did it finally start to give up the goods, as the dark curtain peeled back to reveal a buffet of black raspberries, dark chocolate and cherry liqueur. Still quite tannic, and with no shortage to the depth of flavor, this seems to need another ten years minimum to even approach some degree of maturity, and that’s from half bottle!
