WTN: A Gruner & A Maury....(short/boring)

by TomHill » Mon Mar 20, 2023 2:08 pm

Had these two for DinDin last night:
1. Kracher gruner GrunerVeltliner Burgenland (13.0%; TerlatoWines/LakeBluff/IL) Kracher/Illmitz/Burgenland/Austria 2021: Med.light yellow color; pleasant GV/white pepper/floral/carnations slight stony rather quiet/low-key nose; lightly tart/tangy some GV/white pepper/carnations light earthy/chalky somewhat simple/light GV flavor; med.long quiet GV/floral/carnations slight stony finish; a rather lightweight/simple/quiet white that speaks of GV; borders towards vapid/dull; disappointing; overpriced at $25.00 (AV)

2. Dom.Cabirau Ad'OP: Maury Sec (14%; 60% Grenache/28% Syrah/12% Carignane; HandPickedSlctns/Warrenton/VA) Serge & Nicolas/Les Vignerons de Tautavel Vingrau/Tautavel 2011: Dark color w/ slight bricking; very strong floral/Grenache/strawberry light earthy/Rhonish/roasted slight earthy light toasty/oak rather complex beautiful nose; tart/tangy very strong Genache/strawberry/black cherry/floral rather dusty/OV light toasty/oak bit rustic/Rhonish flavor w/ light drying tannins; very long strong Grenache/strawberry/black cherry/cherry some Rhonish/roasted bit earthy/dusty/OV slight toasty/oak bit drying out/astringent finish w/ light biting tannins; reminds some of an old Priorat Grenache; still loads of Grenache/strawberry nfruit but starting to dry out on the palate; drink up.

More giggergit from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. The AOC Maury Sec was a new appellation in 2011. Which is probably why I bought this wine. I have no recollection of why I bought this otherwise. Most of the wines in Maury of Rousillon are sweet vin doux naturel. This wine is holding on very well but time for it to go.

Kracher is good for one thing, and very good for that thing.
