2001 J & HA Strub Niersteiner Pettenthal Riesling Kabinett - Germany, Rheinhessen (3/31/2023)
A bottle ten years ago was quite advanced, but it must have been a cork issue, as this one (from the same purchase lot on release in 2002) was appropriately aged and delicious. Nearly dry it still had a lot of apricot fruit, and solid mid-palate depth of flavor. The overall body balanced the bright acidity, and the finish was very long and clean. I would say it was hard to believe that a $13 bottle of Riesling would be so tasty after 22 years, but I have seen it happen so many times that I have come to expect it!
