Lock and Worth, new name to me.

by Bob Parsons Alberta » Fri Apr 14, 2023 11:29 am

I know there are a few Okanagan fans on this forum so here is a new name to look out for. Their Semillons sound exciting, we can always rely on Jamie Goode for a fair accessment. Seems to be a limited choice in my Alberta area.

Thanks for that. I'm definitely a fan of Nichol but didn't know about Lock & Worth, though I've met Matt. The wines sound like something to look forward to, i.e. " aged in neutral French oak, and bottled without fining or filtration". I like that kind of minimalism.

Their cellar door is a nice visit in the Okanagan, and there is a good cheese producer there as well. Good low key vibes. Their whites are better than their reds (good roses too), with the two semillon they make their best wines, to my palate at least. The sauv/sem blend is nice too.

ThanksJohn, good you mention SB. To be honest this is always a wine (from BC) that I avoid. Have yet to be convinced of its BC potential. Maybe I am too much of a Loire and S Africa addict!

I am suspicious about BC Sauvignon blanc too. There aren’t too many worth drinking.

I haven’t had too many, but their reds at least tend towards the big, high alcohol style wines. They have some different varietals (e.g., tannat).

BTW, I was just in the valley and had some very good Sauvignon Blancs! La Frenz and French Door come to mind in particular. Very nice Fume Blanc at Clos du Soleil too.

La Frenz--absolutely. Ditto Black Hills' Alibi.

Re Mooncursor, very modern, maybe international, crowd-pleaser style wines with no sense of place.

We just had a Clos du Soleil tasting last night with owner/wine maker. Have to agree that their Fume Blanc is right up there. As usual the Soleil Pinot Gris was 5 star!

How's the smoke up there, Bob?

Smoke varies from day to day. We are safe so far and have taken in some 6 dogs who are homeless. One a German Shep acts like a guardian dog so we are putting him with the sheep, under constant attention for a while.
