2021 Extradimensional Wine Co. Yeah! Grenache Brosseau Vineyard - USA, California, Central Coast, Chalone (5/7/2023)
I am not generally a Grenache fan. Too often I find it strawberry tutti-fruity and simple. This is a different. It walks up with quiet steps - for the first 30 minutes or so I wasn’t quite sure what was really going on. Then there was this gentle, purring creature next to me, that had just been rolling around on the floor of a tobacco shed - warm, earthy and soft. The fruit veers strawberry, but it’s not the dominant feature. There’s a light dose of finishing tannin, which encourages me to let a bottle age a while, to see where that earthy/savory character goes over time. Very interesting wine, as it’s not the typical WineCo swirling vortex, but still evokes more than just fruit salad descriptors.
