The place for all things wine, focused on serious wine discussions.

Why are we here? What's this all about? (Long, ruminative)

Sort of forward, sort of back, Bonnie. We're trying to restore the comfortable home and family we've had for years, but do it in a new place ... and maybe, just maybe, learn a few useful lessons from our experiences along the way.

Glad you are here!

Hey! Holland? My friend Karen was there last night ... did you see her?

So, I'm here too.

I heard the call from the wilderness and here I am.
I hope the feeling in this place will become something of the old WLDG. Still missing the tree structure of the old site though...
I look forward to meeting old and new friends here.
Cheers, Anders

Robin,

Thank-you for sending me the notification about and invitation to this 'new' forum. It's always nice to be invited to something.

I have to admit that I never got set up on the Netscape incarnation/community. I found the initial set up a little confusing, the presentation cluterred and the software somewhat slow. (Only this week have I bitten the bullet and installed a high speed internet connection.)

I commend you for being able to take a step back from a decision and be able to assess whether all of your objectives and goals were being met. I can attest from my work in the IT and consulting fields that the original objectives behind a decision are often forgotten.

Cheers,

Josh

Hello, everyone. I was never able to consistently get on the Netscape site, and really missed the old one. So this is great.

I've made it. Feels good to be back to something a bit more "normal" but to tell the truth, I was starting to adjust to compuserve.

Thanks Bob H...I will look at it after my visit to the dog-team up in Athasbasca today. Roads are clear and need to pay a visit.

Glad you're here, Ed, and glad you're there, too! The plan is definitely to keep both forums alive and let each seek its own level. It seems reasonable to assume that this WLDG will become the wine-geek home base and will frankly be a more appropriate venue for good, "serious" wine discussions from the apprentice to advanced professional levels. But I see no reason why the CompuServe forum can't thrive as a wine-education center and welcoming place for newbies. My instinct, for instance, is to leave WT101 and WineFAQs there, and to assume (and hope) that a lot of you who feel a commitment to wine education will be willing to spend at least a little time over there.

All this is subject to change as we go, but it feels right as a general plan of action.

"I'll be back." That's a MacArthur/Schwarzenegger mixed quote. Between getting a new job, moving, and starting a new "dating" life, I've been tied up in knots. And now I'm going to be on the road for the next two weeks ... Philly, Chicago, Milwaukee, Dallas ... with no "me time" in there. Sometimes I think I should have taken the Army's offer of going to engineering school. I'd have retired an O-6 about six years ago!!

I've moved to a slighty different part of my neck of the woods. From my office I have a view of the tops of some redwoods and some conifers I don't know the names of. I've been here less than a week, but I did get the hummingbird feeder out. One or two hummers have taken the invite. And I have seen a couple of finches which weren't in my last yard. My deck is a good "blind" for taking pictures. We'll see what I can come up with (when I'm actually home).

As to this software ... I'm learning ... it's kinda like with new-fangled corkscrews. In the end you get the bottle open because of the prize inside.
