Hart’s ’04 Sparkling Cuvee

by Dan Smothergill » Tue Mar 13, 2007 9:41 am

Last time Howie was in Syracuse he came over and we exchanged bottles of wine. He is the more ambitious winemaker of the two of us. The range of wines he makes is impressive, this Sparkling Cuvee being an example, and his bottle necks are wrapped in foil. My own efforts at aesthetics run to making sure bottles are clean and sanitized.

This sparkler is 50% Chardonnay and 50% Pinot Noir. The color is a rich golden and the bubbles are both plentiful and long lasting. Ten minutes after pouring in an ordinary wine glass there still were plenty of bubbles. Mouth feel is big and somewhat heavy with a nutty taste that has hints of butter. All in all a very nice effort.

Dan, glad you enjoyed it. I only make bubbies in even number years, so I'll be doing an '06 but haven't decided on cuvee blends yet. I have no PN, but I do have Chardonnay and a few white hybrids.
Chico - Hey! This Bottle is empty!
Groucho - That's because it's dry Champagne.
