This is getting to be a bad habit. Notes from another wine lunch.

Summerland Sauvignon Blanc 2005 - Very light cast to this wine. Very different aroma from the usual SB. Lots of ripe peach and only a little guava and grassiness. The peach charater is carried on to the palate although the wine is quite dry. An easy drinking wine whose main selling point is the very attractive nose.

Esser Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 - Nice nose of ripe berries. Lightish and, forgive the cliche, hollow on the mid-palate. Sweetish and simple. Decent enough.

Ridge Geyserville 2003 - Berry and slight mint on the nose. Noticeably lighter than other Geyservilles I've had. Sweet with a good streak of acidity which provides the structure as the tannins are subdued. Not a deep or profound wine but pleasurable and real easy to drink whether by itself or with food. Some herb and berry on the palate. Opens up a bit with some chocolate. Feels European in texture and weight. Although on the light side, went well with a grilled steak. Not the best Geyserville I've had still very enjoyable.

So Jay, what do you think is the "best by" year for the 03 Geyserville?

The Geyserville is pretty good right now although, knowing your tastes, it might be a bit light for you. My admittedly limited experience with Geyservile is that it's really good on release and a year or two after. After that it closes down tight for about 5 years or so before becoming drinkable again.

Hi Bob,

Geyserville is about USD 48. It was probably about USD 42 when it was imported a few months back but due to the appreciation of the peso vs dollar, the USD price has gone up.
