WTN: 1999 Pride Mountain Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon

1999 Pride Mountain Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa

Decanted for 90 minutes...significant sediment.
Deep red, almost black color. The nose was dominated by black fruit, blueberries, oak and a swampy aroma that reminded me of "dime store turtle water".** Fortunately this swampiness blew off after a few minutes in the decanter. Overall, this bottle was a definite disappointment. Yeah, the flavors were pleasant enough, but it lacked excitement/cut. The tannins were soft and just about completely resolved. The finish was clipped/short.

I'm hoping this was just a weird bottle or I caught it in a 'tweener stage as I have 5 more in the cellar. It was definitely not worth the tariff, which IIRC was $35-$40 upon release.

Anyone else tasted this recently?

Bill

For your sake, I hope it was just an off bottle.

My only previous experience with Pride was very favorable. A few years ago, a bottle of the 1997 Pride easily took first place at a Cabernet Sauvignon blind tasting by our tasting group.

Good luck -- Clark
