Talk about explosive growth in the Washington wine industry...

by Randy Buckner » Wed Apr 25, 2007 2:12 pm

The Washington wine industry celebrates an important milestone this week when the Washington State Liquor Control Board licenses the state’s 500th winery. Sweet Valley Wines of Walla Walla has already received federal bonding. The winery will join 499 others licensed in the state since 1962.

The Washington wine industry has experienced remarkable growth in the past few decades. The industry entered the 1980s with fewer than 20 wineries. By 1990, the number grew to 64, and by 2000 to 155.

Woo hoo! Congratulations to us.

Bleh! The ONLY West Coast Wine Source is the Golden State! (Maybe a few Oregon Pinots can be allowed)

Just one more plonk producer

That is an astounding rate of growth. Have you tried any Coyote Canyon yet? I think that's the name of a new winery led my one of the individuals we met in Prosser during the 2005 offline.

I've never even heard of a hundred or more, much less tasted their wines.
