2005 Hayman Hiil Pinot Noir, Santa Lucia Highlands, Selection #41
I picked up a bottle of this in my continuing search for "everyday" Pinot. I've had more misses than hits with Central Coast Pinots so I was skeptical, but the retailer assured me this wasn't at all Syrah-like and quite restrained. I was initially relieved to see the abv. listed at a modest 13.5% on the label.
I finally got around to opening it the other evening. Hey it smells like pinot, it is semi-transparent and has somewhat restrained fruit on the nose. So far, so good.
On the palate this is a completed disappointment. Candied/confected cherry flavors linger before thankfully giving way to a void of structure/tannin/acid. It finishes quicker than a sailor on liberty. A great wine for people who really don't like wine...bleh!
~$14 and not worth it.
