WTN: Unusual Blend

by Tom N. » Sun May 27, 2007 10:41 pm

Had this wine with dinner tonight.

Deep purple wine with just a slight fade at the edge. Nice nose of cassis, plum, and black raspberry. Luscious tannins with sweet black fruit and a refreshing acidity on the midpalate. Long finish with tingly tannins and ripe black fruit. Medium bodied with good balance. Definitely new world fruity style wine.

Matched with dijon and freshly ground black pepper encrusted cross rib roast. Nice match with the wine with the nuttiness of the dijon (heat had dissipated during roasting) going well with the fruity wine.

Wine: Nepenthe 2004 Tryst. Cabernet sauvignon (73%), tempranillo (17%) and zinfandel (10%). Adelaide hills. 13.5% abv. Decent wine, good with food, but a great sipper.
