2005 Grand Pacific Starliner White, a.b.v. 12.5%, MSRP $12.00: I picked this one up for about $8.79 over at the Pleasant Hill Wine Merchants following a tasting. It's done by the Rutherford Wine Company in St. Helena, CA. And, yes, it is appellation-less.
Excellent QPR and summertime quaff. The website indicates a blend of 62% Chardonnay, 28% Sauvignon Blanc, and 10% Muscat Canelli. The nose is nice and citrussy. The first impression is grapefruit, mid-palate you get pear, and then you finish with a sense of a lychee-like Muscat Canelli. It's somewhat sweet, but there's enough acid in there to keep it in balance. Despite the intentionality behind the proportions, it reminds me of some of the old time field blends, a refreshing, go-with-a-lot-of-stuff type of wine.
