WTN: 2000 Knebel Winninger Rottgen Riesling Auslese

by Jim Vandegriff » Thu Apr 27, 2006 5:32 pm

A wow wine for the amazing flavors. My first Knebel wine (and first Winninger Rottgen I think), this wine displayed the heavy character of 2000 in my experience, but the flavors were amazing. Beautiful deep golden color, a "dense" nose with apricots at first, peaches later, rather unctuous mouthfeel, and intense pineapple flavors with just enough acidity to keep it from being cloying, this is a truly ripe Mosel experience. There is a slight hollowness to the mid palate or it would have rated even higher, but the finish seems to last eternally. Quite the bargain at the DeeVine wines closeout sale at $11 plus shipping for 500 ml, and it even went well with lunch of homegrown salad greens, a gardenburger, and caesar dressing. Jim's rating: Wow and Yum!

Hi Jim,

I picked up one of these a couple months ago, but just haven't found the right occasion yet. Looks like I have something to look forward to, thanks for your note. Just for the record, the alcohol is 7%, and the AP 1 658 069 5 01.
