Page Springs Winery 2004 Cab Pfeffer:

Every time I open one of these, my initial reaction is the same: "Do I really like this wine?". As the evening progresses, the repsonse is always the same; @**^ yes!

Peppery nose and white pepper attack over black fruit, smooth tannins, followed by a lingering melange of baking spices and tart fruit in the finish. If you like peppery Syrah, you'll probably like this wine. Available only from the winery (Central Arizona) in half-bottles, the 2004 vintage is sold out. But Eric will make more.

Now, there is one offbeat variety, Doug! If I recall correctly, E&J Gallo used to bottle a varietal Cab Pfeffer many years ago. Aptly named, as I recall. Thanks for the note.

How interesting. Why Cab Pfeffer, Doug? Is it particularly suited to the Arizona climate?

Well, actually the grapes are from California. I think he just wanted to see what he could do with it. I'd never heard of the grape until I visited the winery a couple of years ago.
