WTN: Sette Ponti Poggio Al Lupo 2003

70% cabernet sauvignon with remainder being alicante and some petit verdot from Tenuta Sette Ponti in Maremma, Southern Tuscany. Deep purple color. Nose of super ripe berries, violets and sandalwood. Very rich and full body, 14% abv. Almost buttery. Ripe blackberries, currants, some pepper, cedar and saddle leather. Very mouth filling. Oak and tannins are still noticeable. Aged for 20 months in new French oak barriques, it needs three to five years of cellaring to show its best. Great quality fruit despite being harvested from relatively young vines (less than 20 years old). Long finish, with a hint of dark chocolate. Impressive, modern styled cab with personality. I like the entire line of Sette Ponti, great producer.

I believe I paid 40-something or so earlier this year.
