WTN: Torbreck Woodcutter's White Semillon 2005

by Bruce Hayes » Mon Jul 09, 2007 10:54 am

Barossa Valley.

Medium dark yellow in the glass.

Full mouthfeel and quite rich, very lemony and citrusy, but with a lovely weighty creaminess in the mouth, peppery, with a slightly waxy sensation. It strikes just the right balance (for me) between tanginess and rich creaminess!!

Light grapefruit rind bitterness on the long, mouthwatering finish.

A very nice bottle of wine for a Saturday afternoon lunch at the cottage.

Screwcap closure.

A most enjoyable note, Bruce. I read that and instantly saw a glass of that wine and me by the grill, waiting for the coals to get good and hot ... Image

Very nice note there Bruce, I am a closet semillon fan and have seen this wine here. Think Bob McD has been drinking this one too.

I sell this down here in Oregon. It is one of my favorite Semillons from anywhere. It sells for $15. It is a great value..

One of my favorites also, usually sees no oak.

Nice notes, Bruce (and some good endorsements following). I'll have to keep an eye out for this one.

Our experience with Semillon from Oz is that they are best after five or six years. There are, of course, exceptions.

My wife and I have developed a fondness for WA Semillon (from Amavi and Chinook). I'll keep an eye out for this Torbreck; I'd be very interested in tasting them side-by-side.

Bruce - how do you think this would fare with fried chicken? We're having a picnic Friday evening, and I'm split between bringing this (which I bought based on your notes!) or a rose (which I think might be too acidic for the fat in the chicken but which I really like).

I thin it would match well, assuming the fried chicken isn't overly greasy.
