WTN: Von Buhl, Chateau Bernadotte 2003

by Jay Labrador » Fri Jul 13, 2007 11:46 am

Notes from dinner at Je Suis Gourmand.

Reichsrat Von Buhl Riesling Spatlese Trocken 2001 - Spicy, peppery with sour green apple flavor. Crisp and lemony but finishes long with a surprising ripe fruit character. Very good.

Chateau Bernadotte Haut-Medoc 2003 - Very dark. On the nose, pencil shavings and roasting meat. On the palate, cassis, dark berries. Also some licorice. Dark chocolate on the finish with some very fine, powdery tannin. Very drinkable now but should age short term. Excellent.

Thanks Jay, for the notes. I can get the Bernadotte locally, so I might check it out. I was less excited by the 2000 vintage (not bad, just sorta "there" in the glass).
