- 2000 Domaine Meo Camuzet Clos Vougeot - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru (7/14/2007)
Opened, but not decanted, two hours before dinner and savored over the next two. Cork was stained to the top, but otherwise the bottle was in good condition. Color was a clear dark cherry red with more clearing than bricking on the rim: a youthful looking wine. A hint of maturity on the nose, however, with a touch of forest floor underlying the cranberry-orange, red fruit juggernaut, a head-turning perfume.
The initial impression is tart and then more tart. It stays in balance but I'd hate to try it without food. Still fairly primary, focusing on red fruits and spice with a modicum of minerality. I kept thinking "smoky cranberry" whatever that is. The tannins are in a good spot, but all told this is still on the upslope. Sadly it was my only bottle. (92 pts.)
