My new cellar

by AlexR » Tue Jul 24, 2007 5:48 am

Hi,

I have lived in my present house for 13 years.

During that time, I have laid my bottles all over the cellar floor in joyous disorder.
No anal-retentive computer tracking of each one for me!
No orderly arrangement or air conditioning (I'm not rich) either.

Fortunately, my wine survived the heat wave of 2003 unscathed.

However, long teased and chided for the incredible anarchy of my wine storage, I finally caved in and agreed to do something about it.

Last Thursday, I had a wall of terra cotta bricks with holes and honeycombs put in.
It holds 600 bottles, and I'll store excess wine in labelled cartons.

I have now recovered the floor space and am thinking of buying 2 barrels and putting a plank of wood on them to make a table.

Won't that make a nice place to retreat from the world?

Anyway, now that I've done it (lots of carrying of boxes and bricks), I'm very happy with the result.

Best regards,
Alex R.

Can you post a picture? It sounds really great!
Yes, and how many deaths will it take 'til he knows

Alex, as someone who used to revel in my own version of "joyous disorder", I can relate to both the resistance to change but the need to eventually embrace some form of organization. Welcome to the other side.

Thank goodness, Alex! I'd hate to think you did all that work and didn't like it. 8)

Congratulations. And I guess this may give you even more incentives to buy even more wine. Just to make it look cosy!

I'd also like to see a picture if you have one, Alex!

Congratulations for taking the plunge!

Let's see-I have one small wine referigerator (30 bottles), store white wines and short term drinkers in the regular refrigerator :? have a small wine locker in Napa 30 minutes away, and have a cool interior closet, a cool bedroom, and some cabinets filled with red wine. This is a very addicting hobby.

Alex, if only I could join you in breaking in the wine tasting table. I might even find a couple bottles of worth to add to the event. Congratulations. order is the way to go when you just know you have a certain wine!
