A Kitchen Conversation

by Jenise » Mon Oct 15, 2007 1:37 pm

We were having an Italian dinner on Saturday night. The chopped salads had been unmolded on their plates and were awaiting the final garnish. Bob walked in as I was sprinkling grated parmesan into a hot teflon skillet.

Bob: Oh! You're making...it's a....it's...don't tell me, I know this...it's called...oh shucks, can't remember but it starts with a 't'.

Me: You're thinking 'tuile'. But no, when it's just melted and crisped parmesan cheese it's called something else. Starts with an 'f'.

Bob: F**king tuile!

I'm never going to be able to say 'tuile' again without thinking of this.

Thanks a lot. I'm not sure I'm gonna be able to get the keyboard cleaned up from all the coffee I just sprayed on it.

I'm afraid I don't know how to pronounce asterisks, but it looks pretty close to one of my favorite Anglo Saxon words.

Your Bob is one of the most funny, courtly, charming, and lovable men I've ever known.

Isn't he? Pure gentleman, through and through, and it's not learned manners, it's not affectation, it's straight from the soul. Thank you for noticing.

He's genuine. Can't fake that. Among the many reasons why I am so happy to be living here is not only are we close to you, we are close to him.
