So I'm a jarhead

by Larry Greenly » Sat Oct 28, 2006 6:45 pm

I save jars. Particularly the larger 1/2 gal to gal sizes to store my myriad grains, flours, seeds, dried things, etc. I prefer glass to plastic because it's clear and easier to keep clean. An exception is a very large, plastic container with a screw-ring type lid that originally held olives. That's where my 25-lb bags of all-purpose flour wind up.

Many things I store with a bay leaf on top to supposedly deter insects. This bit of advice is from my Mormon neighbors who have a year's stash of stuff stored away.

So, how do you like to store your foodstuffs?

I'm a jarhead also, but that's because I was in the Marines. However, all my wine drinking friends save the empty bottles for me, which I use for my home-made wine. My wife used to can and as a result, one corner of my basemant is still full of mason jars.
