RCP: Sriracha-cola chicken wings

by Jenise » Sun Feb 01, 2015 1:10 pm

This recipe just showed up in my inbox. It has a simple list of ingredients that coat chicken wings in a 'sweet heat' using a base of cola for sweetness and spice with other ingredients for heat and tang. When you consider the coke and the long-cooking, this seems to be a riff on the infamous Coca-Cola ribs idea which, they promise, will result in a very crispy skin once the sauce cooks down (I'm thinking you never turn these over--just go pretty side up the whole way)--the picture supplied with the recipe sure looked pretty--not that you can trust food stylists. I bet lemon grass would be a great addition.

ingredients
2 1/2 pounds chicken wings, cut at joint
1 cup cola
2 tablespoons rice wine vinegar
2 tablespoon soy sauce
2 tablespoons Sriracha hot sauce
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper

directions

Heat oven to 325 degrees F. Spray a 9 x 13-inch casserole dish with nonstick spray.

Add wings to the prepared baking dish and season on both sides with salt and pepper.

In a medium bowl, whish together cola, vinegar, soy sauce. Sriracha and garlic powder. Pour over the wings. Place in the oven and bake for 1 hour 45 minutes.

Just from the recipe, those look like they'd be good!

How do you whish them together? Do you just stare at them and think "Blend! Blend!" :D

True!

Yes, food stylists are often good cooks, but. THEY LIE. :)
