Cuisinart recall

Cuisinart has a safety recall on blades from certain models of its food processors. The rivets on the blades can shatter and put sharp metal fragments in the food. Mouth lacerations and chipped teeth can result.

Our Cuisinart is 1980ish. I'm pretty sure it's pre-recall. Still runs well, too.

Ours is also pretty old, but I checked just to be sure. The blades aren't riveted, so it's not subject to the recall.

I'm also rivetlessly happy.

What's a food processor? Is that like grandpa's false teeth?

Ours is also 1980ish (a DLC-7 Super Pro), but it is riveted, so I've requested a replacement blade.

Apparently the recall doesn't apply to ALL riveted blades. My DLC-2 has riveted blades, but it isn't on the list of models involved in the recall. DLC-7 IS on the recall list.

Well, I'll be ding-danged. I hadn't even bothered to look mine up, figuring it was surely too old to be involved, but no. DLC-10E, with a four-rivet blade. It's been in frequent use since ~1980 without incident, but they make it so easy to order a new one, so why not?

Thanks, I have an old DLC-8 with rivets and applying for the replacement was really easy.

I just did it. I think the one I bought for my son also qualifies and I notified him.

The phone number didn't work but the online form is a piece of cake.

Also mine says DLC-8E which is not on the list but the blade says DLC-8 and clearly has the 4 rivets.

No blades received yet, but I am getting spam from them: "We're making Valentine's Day a little sweeter".

My blade has also been in service for a decade or more without incident, so I'm not super worried, but so far I've received more commercial emails than communication about the recall. Reminds me of Oceania Cruises, which sends a flyer twice a week like clockwork and then signed me up for emails as well when I contacted them about it. If anyone gets their replacement blade, I'd like to hear about it.

Just got another email, this one more helpful, that my blade could be shipped as ealry as June but as late as July. That's better turnaround time than the Takata airbag recall, at least.

Just Spam here so far. We haven't received a June/July email yet, but that seems like a long time for such a simple part to manufacture. Guess we'll just keep using our 30+ year old blade which hasn't exploded yet.

I have an old one too. Mine is the CFP-5. I think it was produced in the middle 1970s and says "Made in France" on the bottom. The thing still works like a champ, although I did have problems with it once. The on/off switch is buried in the base and is activated when you close the lid which pushes a plunger down activating a micro-switch. There is a rubber membrane over the micro-switch which prevents moisture from getting into the base. Over the years this rubber membrane became brittle and eventually fell apart, so the plunger couldn't reach the switch. It took quite a while to find a replacement, but I think I could have made one if I had taken the time. After the short repair, it was operating as good as ever.

Mine is so old that it has a molded blade. No rivets. No recall.

Neil, yours might be older than mine! I was a young bride when given my machine, and I now have two because I picked up an identical unit at a garage sale for spare parts. Me and my Cuisinart can't be separated!

I've had my Cuisinart for about ten years (practically new!) and I really don't know how I did without it in the years BC.
