Pizza on the House

Last night, 8 of us went to an old established pizzaria in Niagara Falls (LaHacienda - I took Robin, Ed Draves, Lee Green and Alan Wolfe there for NiagaraCOOL '05). The group included 4 of my sons, including my youngest, Pete, who is home on leave from Iraq, and their women. We had Beans & Greens soup, 2 large pizza pies and 50 wings. When Aldo, the owner, an Italian immigrant who grew up in WWII Italy, heard my son was home from Iraq, he picked up the entire tab! What a generous gesture! When we left, I found a parking ticket on my car. Oh, well, win some lose some.

Ah, such is life. Were you really illegally parked? Find the issuing cop and tell him/her the extenuating circumstances. All those boys in Iraq ought to be worth a torn up parking ticket every now and then. Of course that's my view and most cops I know would agree with me (I knew quite a few in a former life.)

Well, I parked in front of another car, and there was a sign, but I couldn't read it as it was dark and the snow was blowing. I was surprised that the cop actually got out in the bad weather just to write a ticket.

Might be worth a shot. It was years before I got a ticket when I returned from Vietnam. Nearly all the cops in California were vets, too.

It's up to how Howie feels about the situation. Whether to throw out the ticket is nearly always the cops perrogative. If I were the cop and just talking to Howie, I'd tear up the ticket, but that's just me.

I wasn't going to comment on that little slip back into the Dark Ages. But Howie, it's ok. We know that anyone as old as you are has trouble adjusting to the world we're living in now..... and have been for decades.....

In all seriousness, I am glad Pete has been able to be home for leave, and hope everyone had a great time. I just wish he didn't have to go back!

No ofense intended. I was just trying to be concise. It was less wordy than "The group included Dan and his new bride,Kim, Jon and his fiancee Erin, Pete and his girl friend Teresa, Andy and I." Andy's girl friend lives in Florida, but will be here for Valentine's Day. This reminds me of "The Legend of John Henry's Hammer" by Johnny Cash - "Well, John Henry had a little woman, I believe the lady's name was Polly-Ann - yeah, that was his good woman."

Get in touch with a local reporter. It would make a great story and they'd probably grab it. Then it would be interesting to see the fallout.
