So we caught 21 Dungeness crab yesterday

by Jenise » Mon Aug 19, 2019 2:13 pm

Seriously. In three traps: we put out four but one got picked (grrrr) by one of the nutjobs that feel entitled to steal other people's stuff. A fine haul, though: we rarely limit out the first day, and this was actually the 3rd day of the opening. We just couldn't get out any sooner.

So friends to dinner last night, and I served crab cocktails on a martini stem, and veal oscar: grilled veal chops topped with crab meat, a tart tarragon-dill bearnaise and a frilly garnish of slivered brussel sprouts seasoned with just salt and vinegar. Haven't done it before, it just made sense in my head as a very fresh version of an old classic--and boy, it worked. Sent home several crabs with my guests.

Tonight more friends to dinner. Tonight I'm thinking Latin. Going to start with a different crab cocktail, more like a ceviche with tiny sweet tomatoes and avocado, follow that with a salad of iceberg lettuce tossed in what I call 'guacamole dressing', and then for the main course we'll have crab and green chile enchilada pie topped with a 'salsa' of grilled corn cut off the cob tossed with cubed avocado, lime juice, EVOO and garlic.

Tomorrow: crab ramen.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

:)

Then the next night I made crab and roasted tomato risotto and turned the rest of the crab meat into crab cakes, which I froze in pairs. Now I'm ready for some meat. :)

By all means! Just pop those crab cakes and a cold-pack into a box and send them to me. Then go enjoy a steak.

Wow. I too might get tired of crab after eating all those meals.

But it's a risk I'm willing to take!

Put the traps out again yesterday to pull today. Wasn't sold on the idea but realized we'd bought the turkey legs already so heck, might as well. Crab paella tonight!
