This was 1986, Washington DC. We were at a convention of the International Association of Cooking Professionals.

The previous night I ate at a restaurant in Georgetown called Germaine's. Looked over and Jacques Pepin was at the next table, so I figured I made a good choice.

That night I ate at The Watergate, in Palladin's, Jean-Louis.

Julia was supposed to be at this event, but she had broken her leg.
