Matilda, that's the first time I've ever heard of cooking pasta in a pressure cooker. What an interesting thought. What was the texture like?

I haven't eaten it in more than fifty years, so I don't think I could possibly give a truthful comment. All I remember is, I liked it and ate it happily, so I guess the texture was ok. Kids don't like things that are too tough or too sloppy.

One year while visiting my mother, she cooked spaghetti for me. I took a bite and told her it tasted like mush. "I don't know why," she said, "I only cooked it for 20 minutes." I suspect if you tried a pressure cooker today, you would also say it's like mush.

Spaghetti takes anywhere from 7 to 12 minutes or so to cook. A pressure cooker at 15-lbs pressure is about 250F, so by the time the cooker gets up to pressure, the spaghetti is already overcooked.

Supposedly why kids like Spaghetti-O's, etc.
