Yuk or yum? Meat cake!

by Robin Garr » Fri Feb 23, 2007 6:22 pm

Just posted in the Louisville Restaurants Forum. I think it's kind of yukky, and yet it speaks to my male spirit with a strange seductiveness ...

That's something to be washed down with a V-8/Zinfandel cooler ... and don't skimp on the Tabasco sauce!!

I'd eat something like that without a problem.
And now what?

Hmm. Kinda sorta like a multi-layered vertical Shepherd's Pie idea. I don't think it's that off-putting actually. But I'd change the ketchup to a chile colorado.

Fabulous idea! I made a meatloaf like that once only in a loaf pan, topped with mashed spuds. It was yummy.

Well, I don't think it's yukky. Just inventive use of meat loaf. Great birthday cake joke for the macho meat eater.

I like it! I agree with Cynthia though about the ketchup underwelming the effort, though.

By the way, did anyone but me look at the so-called T-Bone on top and think it was something else?

I like the basic idea, Robin. Probably wouldn't make it a cake, but a layer of meat loaf, a layer of mashed, a layer of meat loaf and another layer of mashed -- seems like a very nice presentation.

It does appeal to the meat eater in me. Thanks. :)

I think that is a really neat idea! I especially like the last one made with turkey and stuffing...(however, I might have frosted it with sweet potatoes instead!) Creative!

No, no, no, Bob. We might sometimes arrive at the same conclusion, but I assure you we get there by entirely different means.

I don't like it... and I'll tell you why.....

It looks GIRLY!!!! The mashed potatoes should be darkened with tomato paste, and the shape of the cake should be of a big hunk of meat..... Then I'll consider eating it!

Uh oh.... this is getting way too Freudian!!!!

Now that I think of it, thanks to Paulo whose slip is showing, this meat cake is something creatively aesthetic to eat on one's honeymoon. I mean it is a form of Art Carne ...
And now what?

I'm not sure whether I think that was awful, creative, or awfully creative!
Cheers!

Sort of an inverted Shepherds Pie. I'd eat it if someone served it...but I wouldn't go to the trouble of making it.
