Cotton Candy...Grapes?

by Tom NJ » Thu Aug 18, 2022 11:26 am

They're on sale this week in my local grocery store, the copy in the flyer saying they "have the taste you loved as a kid, but without the sticky fingers". Kinda gross looking, pale yellow orbs. I don't even want to Google them....

Anybody had 'em? Is the copy correct??

Never had cotton candy grapes. But I have had wines made from Thompson seedless that smelled and tasted like bubblegum.

I have tasted them, and yes they're gross. Super sweet, flabby, low acid. UGH.

Everything that article says is good is, for me, a negative. And in the meantime this crap is taking up shelf space and the honest grape varieties I love aren't there. Thompson Seedless are virtually nonexistent; I basically never buy grapes anymore.

I buy all my grapes at Farmers Market when they come into season. I love a small, red, seedless grape, a little tart, a little sweet, very juicy. Not sure of the name. Will see if I can find out this morning. I, too, do not like the hybrid stuff being done.

I used to be able to get some interesting grapes at my local farmers' market, stuff like Mars and Zeus, but that person stopped coming. :(
