No idea, but I note that the eBay seller offers 25 beans for $5 while:

Penzeys offers 15 beans for $25.
BulkFoods.com offers 10 beans for $15.
Beanilla.com offers 25 beans for $28.
BostonVanillaBeans.com offers 15 beans for $22.

I'd be wondering how they can afford to sell vanilla beans at less than 1/3 what all the competition charges. Then again, it's only $5. You haven't lost very much if they turn out to be junk. Assuming of course that this isn't some sort of fraud and they've sold you something toxic instead of vanilla beans.

I personally wouldn't buy this sort of foodstuff on E-Bay.

I say try it. What do you have to lose? $8? I once ordered some inexpensive saffron on e-Bay and I got some gorgeous stuff.

Interesting that the seller is in Doylestown, PA, only a few miles from my early stomping ground.
