Lotsa shallots

I just harvested a bunch of shallots. What's the preferred way of storing?

1. Leave intact stems on.

2. Leave stems on, but cut.

3. Cut stems off.

4. Other

I've got them drying, tied up in bunches. Some will go back into the ground for the next round.

Larry,

Both sources I checked said to simply keep them in a cool, dry place such as the kitchen counter. Just be sure that air can circulate freely around them. Keep them far from potatoes as they cause each other to spoil.

Once they are dry you could probably take off the stems, much like you find them in the store. I hope that helps.

I braid them like I do garlic. Easy to hang up to store and the air circulates freely.

Braiding is a good idea, but the main point of my question is whether the stems should remain intact or have the tips cut off for better drying.

Oh, I missed that you meant to cut just the tips. Sorry.

No, I never bother with that. I leave them intact.
