Rain, and I don't mean the Huston-Crawford film

by Thomas » Wed Jul 04, 2007 2:59 pm

Finally, after weeks of none, we have had a steady, soft rainfall at Keuka Lake. Needed it badly, and it came the day after I watered my garden/s by emptying the 180 gallon tank that I fill in spring and keep on hand for summer droughts.

I've got to fill that tank again...it's still early in the season.

Send a little out here! It's supposed to hit 104° today.

I'd love to have a nice rain - 108 here in Redding. We are getting up at 5:15 a.m. just to get our two mile walks in with the dog, before the sun hits our skin.

I think we hit 80 F yesterday. Lovely, though we were all quite hot. Family friends visiting from Baku, Azerbijian, complained of the chill. It's all relative, isn't it?

And Thomas, by watering you made the rain come, you know.

I do know that, and it's the first time I'm glad about it...

After weeks of almost daily rain, we had yet more today. :( It's time to dry out a bit in the Heartland. Tulsa recorded a historical record rainfall total in June, and with temps hitting the mid 80's every day, it's getting pretty steamy out. :!:

...and in the Finger Lakes, we are well below average rainfall for May and June. I'm noticing leaf stress in many trees, and most of my plums and apples have withered.

Glad you are getting some rain Thomas (even though it's annoying that you just watered!)

I like to check this map every week...

It helps me know how much I need to water my lawn.

Rain?...Geez...someone take some of ours. Its been raining daily since mid June. Our entire neighborhood is starting to look like its a ghost town or something. Too wet to mow, never quits raining...some yards (ours included are nearly knee high)...lawn fungus is kicking in.

Every river, reservoir and bayou from deep South Texas to the Red River is full and overflowing for the first time since 1957. Usually this time of year we're fighting grass fires due to drought.

Only redeeming factor about the whole scenario...yesterday it was 76 degrees...in July no less.
