WTN: Clos Mogador Manyetes, Manso de Velasco Torres Chile

With a lunch of fideua (noodle paella) and Iberian chicken (slow roasted with lots of garlic).

Clos Mogador Manyetes Priorat 2001 - Not giving much on the nose. Very good, sweet, ripe fruit. Some cherry and coffee as well. Bright acidity adds a refreshing dimension and making this a very good food wine. Still a bit tannic. Finishes long. Drinking nicely now.

Miguel Torres Manso de Velasco Vinas Viejas Chile 2001 - Deep, young but approaching drinkability. Plum, coffee and chocolate flavors. Not quite integrated yet. Very dry with some allspice character coming through. Tannic. Needs maybe two more years before it comes all together. Not sure but I think this is pure Cabernet Sauvignon.

Thanks Jay! I recently had a tasting of Chilean wines and the Manso 01 was featured. I did find more a cranberry than plum flavour to it, though. What's this allspice that is mentioned in many notes? Is it the spicy oak character that I often comment on?
I don't drink wine because of religious reasons ... only for other reasons.

Miguel Torres Chile? This is the same Spanish wine house I know? If so, wasn't aware they were in Chile too. Interesting.

Allspice

Allspice is sort of like nutmeg and clove character. I suppose it could come from the oak but am not sure
