Wine Podcasts

by dankaufman » Fri Jun 09, 2006 7:35 pm

I am producing a wine podcast called Steve's $10 wine challenge http://www.pdxk.com/SWC/SWC and want to find out if wine aficionados are even using podcasts these days? Will you take my poll and check out the podcast :) ?

Thanks,

Dan Kaufman

Hi Dan,
I listened to the Cork Screwcap one. Very clear indeed, despite the American accent
But I would like to know how long the podcast is. Perhaps it is the software that my PC defaulted to, but I can't see it anywhere. So could the length be put against the item that you click on to get to the podcast? I thought this one was a bit long to keep my attention, hence I'm typing this as it is playing in the background.

By the way, why is it called a podcast? This kind of media isn't new, so is 'podcast' a new name for it, the hip, 'in' name of 2006?

Cheers,
Sue

Sue and Ed thanks for the post and the feedback! :)

I will add the episode lengths going forward. Most run about six minutes.

So what makes this different then just an audio file on a website (which it is)?...

A podcast can be subscribed to using a computer program like apple's (free) iTunes http://www.apple.com/itunes/ (there are many others) or an internet based tool like my.yahoo.com. Whenever there is new content it is automatically dowloaded behind the scenes so it's ready to be listened to or watched at your convenice. It is specifically called a podcast because you can then put that file on your iPod or MP3 player and listen to it on the fly.

Many folks these days are getting their favorite radio programs in podcast form and listening to them in car on the way to work or when exercising. TV is following suit.

I hope that explains things. If you want to go to the actual podcast at iTunes click this link:
http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZSt ... =140156078
you can subscribe for free and get all the latest shows as they become available.

Thanks again for your feedback and please let me know if you have any other questions.

Cheers, )>--|

Sue - I don't remember what spawned the discussion, but when my Daughter was about five she asked, in quite a serious manner, "How come Americans are the only people who don't have foreign accents?". She wasn't quite able to comprehend the the idea of linguistic relativism. I told that I would take her to Kentucky someday so the she could appreciate how "foreign" some American accents really are. Oh relax Robin, it's just a joke! :D

Dan - I have to admit that I would not know a Podcast if one hit me in the face. I am willing to learn, however.

Sam,

Here is a great link that helps explain podcasts. http://www.apple.com/itunes/podcasts/

But if you are not interested in all the rigamarole you can just go to my website http://www.pdxk.com/SWC/SWC and listen to the shows there.

There is a new one coming soon called "Pinot? Why Not?" It is not posted on the site yet but available directly at: http://www.vaudecast.com/WineChallenge/swc4pinot.mp3.
