Menach, Hi....

Following is my most recent tasting note for the wine in question. I'd say open the bottle with a quietly mumbled prayer but be sure to have a standby close at hand.

Best

Yarden, Merlot, 1999: As predicted, well on the way down at this stage, its silky tannins still felt nicely but its once upfront fruit aromas and flavors of wild berries and currants now showing signs of tiredness and with first hints of caramelization hiding what were once appealing hints of vanilla and spices make. Growing tired rapidly. Drink up. Score 88. K (Re-tasted 16 Jan 2006)

Menach, Hi,

Ms. Debbie Shoham poured the Merlot 1999 in a blind tasting a few months ago. It was on the down side, kind of "Brownish" - but drinkable.
Later on the same event we had the Merlot 2003 tasted not blind. Since that night it is one of my favorites.

I have not personally tried it, but I heard the 1999 was still drinkable - albeit well past its peak.

Happens to be that I recently stumbled upon a 2000 Yarden merlot which was also still drinkable. The 2000 had LOTS of sediment, some of it in the form of big chunks, but the wine was not quite dead. A slightly off nose, but decent color and drinkable wine...

I had this wine friday night, it was actually not that bad, the colour had a orangy tint to it and fading a bit at the rim, definitly showing clear signs on the nose and palate of age and on the way... but still nice ! med to full body with earth wood mold and a bit of plum and chocolate on the backround but very quite, after sometime the fruit faded and left with a nice flabby wine, drinkable and also enjoyable, a guest at the table loved it and it reminded him of a certain 1986 Clos... Pomerol (nk),
it was definitly a nice experience,
Best regards
