WTN: Balthasar Ress Riesling Trocken 2004

From the Rheingau. AP Nr. 305901905.

Very light yellow color, almost clear in the glass.

Light lemon on the light nose.

Holy *&&^% this is a tongue stripper!!! I like dry wines, but this is ridiculous.

Light structure, but incredibly tart, starting off with unripe green apples, briefly touching on lemon and then unleashing the full force of bitter grapefruit rind. Grapefruit rind and acid persist on the long, mouthpuckering, saliva-sucking finish.

A very simple wine that doesn't change or reveal other features as it warms and breathes on the table. Was unable to finish the bottle.

Have had other wines from this producer in the past and they have been enjoyable.

Wow.

Bruce,

Boy, that sounds like raw material for a kir if I ever saw one. We don't get the trocken Balthasars, that I've seen, so I was pleased to see your note nonetheless.
