Last night due to an unforeseen incident which turned positive, left me, at the end of the evening looking down a bottle of Virdis rosso '03, a wine from the carribbean of Europe so to say -Sardegna-. It left me speechless, I have to say that there is very little wrong with this wine other than it maybe needed a couple of more years to settle and mature.

The wine is made with 100% Cagnulari, a local grape variety from this region, which are left to overmature on the vines giving it an elevated sugar content and a whopping 18°.

The first impact was pretty alcholic, but after we let it decanter for a couple of hours it transformed into a very smooth, full bodied wine with a very rich and persistent flavour. The wine seemed to have plenty of wild mature fruit/Prunes(I would say) on the nose and in the mouth. Colour was dark, intense red.

Not a wine for light lunches and but with extra aged cheeses, salami's, Roast Game(Boar) or even better with friends.

One to take note of when the chance arises.
