I'm in the martini camp. I like Tangueray 10, a hint of vermouth in the air (okay, okay pretty much straight gin), shaken over ice, served straight up with a couple of olives. A girl has to get her fruit/veggie servings in somehow.
Often at home during the cold months I'll make what I know as a French Manhattan. Makers Mark and Chambord. Shaken over ice. Now that's a good cocktail.
In fact...I think I'll have one tonight while I write my curriculum.
