Just checked out the first three pages! What a trip down memory lane! Thanks for posting the link.
Hello. My name is Carrie, and I...I....still like oaked Chardonnay. (Please don't judge.)

wow, I'd almost completely forgotten about that software.
I know a lot of folks struggled with the frames, but I liked it.

Despite the fact that I like threading, I truly detested the old software, to the extent that I rarely participated in the old WLDG/FLDG. This newfangled software isn't perfect, but I'll take it over the old hands-down.

I still have the old site on my "Bookmarks Tool Bar". I probably go back there to search something out around once every month or two. It's a heck of a resource.

Gosh....Like John, I really liked that software. I search the 'old FLDG' ALL the time.

I liked it because when my employer cut off internet access to sites with the word wine in them, I was able to still get there by using myspeakerscorner.com.

Thanks, Jenise! I've been reading Robin Garr's Wine lovers page for years and used to get the food letter and have used the archives to the food letter but never realized there was a food lovers discussion group! I had no idea that people actually commented on Garr's recipes like the celeriac pancakes and so on. So I've just spent a fascinated hour reading some of the posts. Imagine--trotter recipes WAY different than the ones I ate in Tallahassee. Gotta try 'em. Thanks again!

Well now that you know there is a discussion group, I hope you drop by more often. There's always room at our kitchen table for one more.

Jenise - thanks for posting this link.

I finally got around to perusing the recipes from the former site, and came upon the Butternut Squash Lasagne. It looks like something I might want to try tomorrow for a vegetarian friend and his non-veg. wife. Should I follow the recipe as is, or has anyone made the dish with changes or suggestions?

The link doesn't work any more - it just goes to a generic page. Presumably the domain has not been renewed.

Is there an alternate link? Maybe on the Internet Archive?

Unfortunately, no. What's gone is gone. And I'm very sorry about that, I had stored a lot of my recipes there that I'd love to get back.

It's out there. Here's a link to it on the Internet Archive: https://web.archive.org/web/20101228044606/http://www.myspeakerscorner.com/forum/index.phtml?fn=2.

Unfortunately, although I believe the whole site is there, there doesn't seem to be any way to search IA for specific content. You have to page through the whole site around the time you submitted the recipe .

It doesn't work for me; it just returns an error message. Does it work for you?

It's still there, as far as I can see from here. It's just very slow. Here's the back story: It turned out that Eric still owned the domaine, and let us know recently that he was going to let it expire. We didn't want that, so he transferred it to us and, I think, Mary put it on a (cheap) GoDaddy server. It should all be there, but those guys aren't known for high-level hosting. :( We do NOT intend to let it expire, but we did know going in that we were going to maintain the old FLDG "for as long as we could," and that still applies. It wouldn't be a bad idea to look for your old recipes and save them to your computer or (better) to a cloud-based account so you have personal access to them no matter what happens.

No, wait, I'm wrong. :( The MySpeakersCorner page is gone. :( I guess we didn't get the word soon enough. The Internet Archive does seem to go to at least the first page of the old forum, though, but maybe only the first page?

The first, second and hundred-and-seventy-second pages are all there, so I think all the pages are there, it's just that the search mechanism doesn't seem to work any more. The search page does appear correctly, but it returns an error message when you try to search.

No, I poked around and tried to go to some recipes from different geological eras, and it's pretty clear that the Internet Archive puts up a random sample but doesn't drill all the way down to every message and reply. :(

I'm sorry, folks. It was a good eight-year run, but we've known all along that the old forum might someday fail. Frankly, I thought that would happen when the servers would no longer respond to the ancient code, but I guess we don't get to choose the specific manner of death. I hope most of you have saved your favorites. I've been using both Dropbox and Evernote as a quick-save backup for any text I want to keep, not just on the forum but everywhere, and I recommend both those approaches.
