Ramos Pinto Ruby Porto

My first experience with ruby port, and very much an impulse buy. It caught my eye on the close-out counter as I was about to check out at the local wine mart. At $12 I figured I couldn't go wrong.

Color: Dark purple. Nearly opaque.

Nose: Rubbing alcohol, and nothing but.

Taste: Dilute cough medicine with a hint of chocolate syrup mixed in. With time in the glass the chocolate intensified a bit, but the wine basically just laid there.

I've had several VP's and tawnies all of which would put this ruby port to shame (at a much higher price of course). Depth, character, and robustness just weren't there at all. I'm glad I didn't pay more the $12.

Love the name.

Now if they'd only bottle in a pint sized container you could buy a Pinta Pinto Porto :)

And if you had 9 bottles and drank them in Columbus you would have Nina Pinta Pinto Porto Santa Maria.
