Do you have any experience with Burrata cheese?

by Karen/NoCA » Tue Sep 12, 2006 1:48 pm

I found a recipe in Bon Appétit which calls for this cheese. I had no luck in finding a deli which even knew what I was talking about. Is this cheese worth seeking a source for?

Yes, quite delicious and unique. I had it at A16, a San Fran restaurant, and I've seen it at Cheese Board in Berkeley. So it's gotta be out there somewhere.

Sort of a cross between mozzarella, butter, and whipped cream.

Karen, when you find a fresh example of this cheese, you will think you died and went to heaven.
It is definitely worth seeking out.

Maybe this will help.

Recipe? A recipe for burrata? Just put it in a bowl, unwrap very carefully, give a quick sprinkle of your best fleur de sel, then eat.

You may need knife, fork, and spoon.

You will certainly want to lick the bowl, if you haven't already swooned by then.

I couldn't agree more with the preceeding posts, Karen. Run, don't walk, to wherever you need to go to obtain this palate pleasing treasure! It is entirely up to you if you want to share the emotions of the moment or keep it all to yourself!

Yes, a recipe, but it called for putting the Burrata ball in the center of a salad plate, then surrounding with quarters of heirloom tomatoes, dressed in coarse salt, basil, and EVOO. Yum!

Thanks for the feedback, I am ordering today!
