Too much of anything is too much - except too much Champagne is just right. "Always" would be the ideal choice IMO. ;)
I don't drink wine because of religious reasons ... only for other reasons.

Anytime is the right time for Champagne. Always works for me. I've never had enough, although there was that time......

YES!
There is no such thing as too much good bubbly nor a bad time to drink it!

What the hey del Monte... The bubbly has worked for me pre, during and post. Why limit yourself?

Oh, come on. Does everybody here love Champagne? Vast majority saying "anytime"? Seriously? With hamburgers, lamb, beef, pork loin? With pizza or lasagna or BBQ ribs? While sitting around watching tv? Watching Monday nite football?
Do all wine geeks have to like champagne? I don't get it.
I marked ""other celebration" because I almost enjoyed the champagne table celebrating late August in Ann Arbor. But truth be told, I liked every other table better.

Stick in the mud! Nothing makes a party like champagne. It's just fun. You don't have to like it better than other wines, but I don't understand not enjoying it.

OW,
I agree with you that it is not anytime, just like all other wines. The problem is that the poll gave a choice of NYE, Wedding and Special events. There are quite a few wines I would place above Sparkling but to place it always with special events seemed equally silly. It is absolutely our go to wine with spicey oriental cuisine and fun as an apertif.

Well we start almost every tasting dinner with very fine bubbly-- it is great with most appetizers and definitely gets everyone in a festive mood. I wouldn't drink it with ribs, but then again I wouldn't drink Petrus with popcorn. BTW Champagne is pretty good with popcorn!

Ruth

Yes, for me it provides a good start for a longer meal / tasting. A good appetiser for what's to come.

I am really starting to enjoy Prosecco after all these years of hoarding the other stuff. Pro I can drink now, anytime. It must be 5 o`clock somewhere!!!

You know, I've never tried Champagne with pizza. No time like the present! :D

I am always amazed when people don't like Champagne. What ya gonna do? More for the rest of us.

It's an easy food match (except chocolate) and makes an occasion by its mere presence.

I may have mentioned this before, but it feels right to repeat it here: Try this experiment. Have a swallow of your favorite big red wine. Now have a swallow of Champagne. Now go back to the red---golly, what happened to it? It disappeared! Wiped out!

Never underestimate the power of Champagne.

Bob,
I agree for three reasons, 1) has bubbles 2) less expensive than Champagne and 3) less alcohol. It is my choice as an apertif and Champagne usually gets served with food.

Is this a trick question?

The answer that comes to mind is "Every day, preferably twice a day". I personally treat Champagne as I would any other wine and prefer to pair it with food. And I don't like weddings...

Of course, New Year's Eve is the time to open altogether too many bottles of Champagne. And New Year's Day is the time to celebrate one's hangover.
Best,

Actually OW, you are not a minority of one. I join with you in not caring a lot for sparkling wine, so we might be a minority of two! I believe that there is a place for them, and post sex might be the best place, but I just don't like them enough to pay their price when for the same or less $$ I can buy wines I like more.

You can include Kim on this little list Bob; we don't drink more bubbly because she doesn't care for it that much, although she did quite enjoy a couple of Proseccos while boating on the North River in Massachusetts in 85 degree weather yesterday. Maybe it's all just a matter of context...

Damn, sis, I'm gonna have to try that some time. Maybe Kim'll like that pairing too!

BTW, IMNSHO, any time is a good time for Champagne...

It [the list of non-lovers of Champagne] may be small, but I prefer to think of it as exclusive.
