Netscape Forum Poll: Favorite sweet wine

by Robin Garr » Mon Sep 25, 2006 8:25 am

The onset of autumn with its crisp afternoons and chilly evenings prompts renewed attention to warming dessert wines for many of us. The Ausleses, Ice Wine, Port, Sauternes, Tokay and more ... there's something to be said for just about every variation. What's your favorite? This week's Netscape/CompuServe Forum poll invites you to share your preference with the wine-loving world. It only takes a moment, and you don't even have to join or log in!

Oh, crap ... it was in there but got lost when I alphabetized. Hmm, I might have to restart this.

Okay, THAT was stupid. I've restarted the poll, so you'll want to vote again, Dave. I've edited the original post to point to the revised version, but to save time, you can just as easily click here for the revised poll.

Excellent choices (and a good example of why there is always an "other" pick). Don't forget some of the very fine Friuli sweeties, which at least in romantic theory bring together an Italian sensibility with the Austrian influence ... Picolit and Ramondolo and kin.

If port is in the list then it's a clear winner. Otherwise Loire Chenin can be great. Never got into sauternes or tokay, but there's still time. De Bortoli Black noble is great and german rieslings at all sweetness levels are a great option.

but why don't we (actually the wider public) drink dessert wines that much these days - rebellion at sweet not equating to serious perhaps?

No matter, more bargains for the rest of us 8)

regards

Ian

by Anders Källberg » Mon Sep 25, 2006 5:08 pm

As many of you know, this was an easy choise for me: Moulin Touchais, of course. I'm almost addicted to this delicious sweet wine with itswonderful acidity and almost eternal life!

I tried a sip of a wine based on Corvina. It was the extra long hanging desert wine cousin of Amarone. Reposso? I loved the layers of caramel and other flavors!

Madeira, followed by Loire sticky - though I drink a lot more great Loire sweet wines than great Madeira.
