Last night Betsy made pork chops from a Pierre Franey recipe, with mashed potatoes, bean, and salad. I opened another bottle from my "take a longshot chance" case of white Burgs, the 1989 Boisson-Vadot Puligny-Montrachet. Glad I have more of the '94 Boillot, this one is totally maderized. D-.
So I opened the 2005 Bruno Giacosa Roero Arneis. Bright pear and white peach fruit, a little chalky minerality, and a hint of almonds. Fruit is ripe and well-balanced by acidity. Delightful midweight with a good finish, well worth its $20 tag. B++

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C mediocre. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.
